Many Windows Forms controls have equivalent WPF controls, but some Windows Forms controls have no equivalents in WPF. For example, there is no equivalent control of the FolderBrowserDialog.

See Windows Forms Controls and Equivalent WPF Controls article for more information.

OpenFolderDialog is a WPF dialog based on FolderBrowserDialog sources created by Microsoft Corp. It was created to allow a user to select folders in applications created with WPF technology.

Now developers do not need to add references to the System.Windows.Forms only in order to add FolderBrowserDialog to a WPF project. Only small library can be referanced now to use folder browsing capability.
